The dragon reignites its fire

Firstly, Cardiff Bus seems to set aside the myths that a company needs a brand new fleet to look smart. I was incredibly impressed to see how many TransBus SPDs and Scania N94UAs that Cardiff Bus had running about the capital. At almost 18 years of age, these Darts still look as impressive as ever – they may have some scuffs but their overall appearance is very impressive indeed.

The new era for Cardiff Bus begun earlier this year with a selection of ex-Isle of Man Mercedes-Benz O530/Citaros for services 8 & 9. The majority carry new route branding for the services, with at least one (so far) being painted into the new corporate livery. Interestingly, the teal has now been dropped from the livery, taking the company back to its roots of two-tone orange. The Welsh dragon has also been reborn in the new logo, bringing the logo in line with the new company standard.

Last but not least is the company’s love for all things Scania until around 2008. One of the very few places to still have articulated vehicles in service, Cardiff’s certainly look and indeed sound the part. Until recently, they were active on services 17/18 and the popular Baycar service 6; however, the Baycar has since received a makeover with Alexander-Dennis Enviro 200s in a revised Baycar identity.
